Artists have a corrupt gene that makes them sensitive to the feelings of others, their joy, their fears, their dreams and their loves. It is for the artist to interpret these emotions and present them back to the viewer that they might identify and better understand themselves and the environment in which they live.
Barry Andrews has been an artist all his life but only now understands why he felt different from most folk caught up in the maelstrom for survival. These last ten years have been a release for him and is now at his happiest when expressing his vision of life in an abstract style with oil paint. Every painting he makes, often working on thirty to forty paintings at one time, are important to him and it is true it becomes difficult to part with them, but part with them he must, how else can he move on to new ideas.
I hope you enjoy the work, for you the viewer have a powerful role to play, for what is art if it is not to be seen, what is art if it does not move you in some small way?
Barry Andrews graduated from the University of East London 2010 with a First Class Hons degree in Fine Art.
