Composition II
Artist: Arie Coetzee |
Artwork Description
"The Style", also known as neoplasticism, was a Dutch artistic movement founded in 1917. The two main artists were Mondrian and Van Doesburg. Mondrian never accepted diagonals, whereas van Doesburg insisted on the diagonal's dynamic aspects, and indeed featured it in his art. They advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to the vertical and horizontal directions, and used only primary colours along with black and white. Different than Mondrian and Van Doesburg’s neoplasticism I’m striving to move away from only primary colours, only squares and rectangles and only straight and horizontal or vertical line but still the be fundamental in the principle of the geometry of the straight line, the square, and the rectangle, combined with a strong asymmetricality and the relationship between positive and negative elements in an arrangement of non-objective forms and lines. In this I’m moving towards a modern Post neoplasticism.FREE eBook on buying artwork + exciting monthly news & updates on our latest artwork
