There's something captivating about the rain, the way it makes the pavements glisten and people hurry. In this latest series of paintings, I've tried to capture an essence of the London rainy day commute, at each end of the day. Each painting is titled by the time and place of the reference, as people make their way to work or back home again, in a light shower or downpour. As I walk about looking for the perfect reference, I'm drawn to colourful umbrellas, blurred lights and reflections in puddles. This piece is painted in oils on primed artist's quality postcard, signed and titled on the back. The painting comes mounted and framed, ready to hang.
When I was three years old, I told my parents that I wanted to be a violinist or an artist. The closest I got to the violin was ten years of guitar lessons, but art has been an enduring passion, through school, art college and beyond. Primarily, I love to paint people. I relish the challenge to get an accurate likeness whilst trying to keep my brush marks lively, colourful and interesting. I also love colour. I get a real kick adding vibrant touches to an otherwise subtle scene, whether it’s a portrait, landscape, equestrian piece or whatever. It’s those unexpected hints that can bring a painting alive and bring inexplicable joy to the viewer. Based in West Sussex, UK.
