About the artwork
An expressionistic abstract painting. Approximately 61x61cms (24x24ins) and painted in June 2019 this is an original mixed media painting on deep edge canvas stapled on the back with painted sides ready to hang without the need for a frame. Paul Chambers
An only child born 1942 in inner-city Nottingham Paul spent his childhood in a tiny back-to-back terrace house with no garden, no hot water, toilet in the back yard and the bath hung on a nail outside the back door. He had little interest in sport or music but loved drawing and painting and dreamed of being an artist one day. Maths being his weakest subject at school meant that he failed his eleven-plus so art college or university was out of the question. Leaving school at age fourteen with the options of working down the Pit, Raleigh Cycle factory or a job in the Rag Trade Paul chose the latter.
