In this subtle and gentle painting, my intention has been to capture nature as a silhouette and suggest changing light within the negative spaces. Inspired to create a flat lay composition, I have allowed the delicate blossoms and stems to entwine, creating a lace like effect. The visual elements of line, shape and pattern are the focus here. This is one of my favourites! A reminder that beauty can often be found in the unexpected elements of nature, the fragile and familiar. I am a visual artist based in County Antrim. I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Textile Design and my passion for colour, texture and pattern continues to inspire my work. Balancing my career in education as a teacher of Art and Design, I have continued to carve out time for my own practice, creating paintings inspired by the beauty of nature. My creative process involves experimenting with soft, atmospheric backgrounds which suggest movement and allow the detailed silhouettes of natural form to take centre stage. I use a soft and subtle colour palette to record entwined flowers and foliage, allowing me to capture the calming effects of nature and the changing seasons.
