Painted after spending time watching the sea in Hastings when the weather was grey and stormy. It’s titled from the song “Bless the Weather” by John Martyn, who lived in Hastings. It's painted in shades of blue, black and white. The paint is layered and blended and heavily textured in parts. The painting continues around the sides of the artwork and it is signed on the back. It’s ready to hang and comes with a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity. I am an abstract painter inspired by nature and music. The sea provides me with powerful inspiration and I am endlessly fascinated with the horizon and it's symbolism. I paint my abstract seascapes from memory rather than life and I want to evoke a sense of place however abstract the work becomes. My paintings are influenced by the British Coastline, particularly Sussex and Cornwall and I aim to express the timeless feeling of calm experienced when staring at the sea. Lately I have been concerned with minimalism in my work and have tried to capture a stillness that I have experienced during lockdown.
