Bournemouth Pier dominates Dorset Bay as it is immediately in front of the visitor as they emerge from the towns beautiful gardens. Like most piers it is not particularly beautiful as it is a structure built to withstand the seasons and rough seas and winds. On the afternoon I was there, the weather was windy but it was a beautiful, sunny day. The light captured the piers structure as mostly a silhouette. The sea was bubbling in a mass of froth - long extended waves that dribbled out and went further than most viewers expected, capturing unawares several who ended up with wet toes! The clouds were building on the horizon and I knew it would not be long before my walk would have to be cut short as the sun would be lost to cloud and the temperature would drop. I started painting as a young child and went to Art College in the UK leaving with a Degree. For a few years I concentrated on a career in graphics and my painting became illustrations instead. Since moving to live by the sea in the last few years, my love of painting has been renewed. With the inspiration of the beautiful coastline of Dorset, the continual changing sea and sky is a never-ending fascination of colour and pattern for me and I try to capture the energy and light of what I see before me. I paint in acrylics and all my paintings are individual. They seek to capture a moment in time that is unique and which can never be repeated.
