About the artwork
This is an original oil painting of the colourful houses of Gdańsk in Poland. Reconstructed by Dutch architects after World War II, the houses have become a symbol of the city's resilience and creativity. This painting has been produced using artist grade oil paint on canvas. A coat of professional grade art varnish has been applied to optimise the colour and protect the painting from dust, UV light and other environmental factors. The painting is provided in a complimentary handmade wooden frame which is painted white and fitted with picture wire, ready to hang. The painting is signed on the front and will be shipped with the Certificate of Authenticity. The painting measures 16 (H) x 20 (W) inches (approx. 40 x 50 cm). I became a professional oil painter in 2015, following a 20-year career in governance. I work from my studio at home in Rochester, where I love to sit in the peace and quiet and paint. My style is mostly realism although I do quite like to simplify what I’m painting to focus on key content. A lot of my work is bold and bright. I paint a lot of architecture, flowers and cats but common to all my work is clean lines and crisp images. I really do believe that painting is in my bones, not only because it keeps me sane but it also allows me to communicate directly from my soul.
