About the artwork

Emerald Beach III original seascape oil painting on canvas. Width 90 cm x Height 60cm or 35.5 x 23.5 inches. Signed. Framed in a white washed wooden frame. With a certificate of authenticity. Free UK Shipping. Emerald Beach III is inspired by the coastline of South Devon and Cornwall. It show a large emerald green wave breaking onto a sandy beach. The sky is cerulean blue and the sea is a deep indigo blue. The light coming through the cresting wave is a combination of emerald and viridian green. The deep shadow of the wave is a mixture of viridian green, indigo and ultramarine blue mixed with a hint of alizarin crimson. The foreground shows sea-foam rising up and under the waves with the pink and yellow sand on the beach. I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. This is another in my series of wave paintings which I started 5 years ago. The terms sea green has many different colours this article is a good insight into this varied colour. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist. In conclusion, I am a member of the Devon Artist Network and a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.

Born in Buckinghamshire, I move to Devon 15 years ago and am now based in Teignmouth. My recent work has been focused on the changing colours of the sea and childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torbay (before the M5 was built). I have been painting a series of wave paintings for over 5 years now. It is the light coming through the waves and ever-changing colour of the sea that I am keen to explore. Everyone sees colour in a slightly different way to one another, call it colour perception. The way I see colour and the feelings I get when the colours align well on a canvas is appeals to me. The way collectors see my work will be unique to them because of their own individual colour perception. Painting f... (see more)
