About the artwork
Having created a number of hedgehogs in the past, I was approached by a conservation organisation to create a hedgehog pastel artworks as a fundraiser. Sadly that fundraiser was cancelled due to COVID so I am now offering Hedgehog in Ivy for you to purchase. The reference photo that I worked from was by Coatsey on Dreamstime.com. As usual, I created this detailed pastel artwork with soft pastels and pastel pencils on Artspectrum Colourfix pastel paper. The sharpened pencils create the detail and the background is blended using polystyrene sticks to give the three-dimensional effect to the completed pastel painting of this secretive hedgehog. This unique and detailed pastel artwork is 10 inches by 14 inches and supplied with a gold frame, 21 inches by 17 inches. I am a retired veterinary surgeon who has become a pastel artist. I was introduced to pastels as a teenager by a friend of my father’s and in fact I still have remnants of my first set of pastels. I passed A level art at 16, then went on to complete a veterinary science degree - my understanding of animals allows me to add that something extra to my artwork. I have completed a large number of works in the past 21 years, many of which can be seen on my website. I feel that pastels have a great vibrancy and richness of colour that is often under appreciated.
