Before making the change to full-time painting, I had previously spent over 35 years running my own graphic design practice, working in the financial, pharmaceutical and advertising sectors. I have been painting on and off for nearly 50 years, my first oil painting was done in my grandfathers studio when I was about 5 years old! My acrylic paintings are concerned with optical constructs that explore the relationship between juxtaposed colours within a strategically defined two-dimensional space. Colour games, illusion and deflection, imbalance and disturbance, all play their part. My oil paintings usually feature figure studies with subtle, surreal elements or unusual points of view.
