About the artwork

I paint animals in a bright contemporary style and I try to create pictures that make people joyful either by recalling a cherished holiday or the expression of a special friend, or simply because these fellow creatures still exist. Peevish Pam is a peahen that I met outside my hotel window during a trip to Delhi. She visited every morning and was very screechy when we didn’t give her any snacks. She amused me with her hoity toity manner and I hope I have captured her sheer attitude for you. Peevish Pam is painted in dusky teals and emerald hues, with a glimpse of deep orange. Original one-off watercolour painting. Archival quality. The painting will be posted flat. For reviews of my work please go to my google page on https://g.page/joshaigh

Imagine my surprise when, at the tender age of 9, I won first prize for my painting of a rose. I didn’t really know about flowers. Or winning. But I knew I liked painting. I lived in Kenya before coming to England, aged 16 (no lions in the streets, I kept telling my school friends!) and followed a scientific career in the pharmaceutical industry. Always painting in the evenings, in my spare time - for family, for friends, for me. I paint mainly animals, especially African wildlife, in watercolours - bright, flowing and merging - whatever I need to capture that particular moment. I try to create pictures that make people joyful either by recalling a cherished holiday or the expression of a special friend, or simply because these fellow ... (see more)
