About the artwork

A painting inspired by the visiting peacock that comes into my garden frequently The fabulous colours of his plumage inspire me every year in springtime! My favourite paper - cotton paper, hand-made in India. is the most lovely grey/blue shade. It has a deckle edge and this can be made a feature of when it is time to frame the painting, rather than bringing a mount/mat over the edge of the paper. I have used graphite pencil, watercolour and Derwent "Inktense" permanent water based crayons which form a permanent layer of intense colour. When inspiration came to me for the first in this series of blue green works (now sold), I was simultaneously reading a book with Japanese characters, hence the depiction of the woman being pale skinned with long blue-black hair. Some of the photographs show the painting in my hallway and on an easel in my studio. Available unframed. Packed very carefully and sent by Tracked Delivery. I include a Certificate of Authenticity with all my artworks.

My artwork is both figurative and landscape, inspired by literature, poetry and romantic love. I graduated from Belfast College of Art in the 70s and my studio was based in London's East End until I relocated to the Lincolnshire Wolds in the early 90s. This eventually introduced the element of landscape into my art: what used to be large, dark, pastels involving only a woman or a couple, evolved into smaller, brighter works, where lovers dance or repose in a pastoral setting - and the landscape itself has become a subject, not just a prop for my dancing deities! I work full-time at my art and occasionally illustrate editorial. In 2004 I received an Arts Council Award to learn stone-carving; I occasionally carve in the local limestone. My... (see more)
