About the artwork
Loch Garry is a long narrow loch, high in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands. It is 4km long (about 2.5 miles) but only 400m wide (about 435 yards). The pattern of colours flows across the composition, from the mountains to the glen to make one harmonious whole. The painting uses acrylic paint on acid-free tissue paper with highlights of conté crayon. The tissue has been adhered to 290g watercolour paper with Golden soft gel medium and given a final layer of protection with Golden UV satin varnish. Signed both on the front and on the reverse with description and title. I’m a mixed media artist from a small fishing village in the north of Scotland. I began as a professional photographer and wandered through other design roles. Now I enjoy expressive mark-making and a dash of photography. You’ll usually see me thinking about composition, playing with pattern and testing spatial relationships, that sort of thing. As for anything else I think about how it affects all the above. I enjoy looking for unlikely structures and trying out fleeting interractions. The question of balance is never far away.
