About the artwork
Slipped Away “‘But soon she began to think once more of the world above her; she couldn’t forget the handsome prince and her sorrow at not owning –as he did – an immortal soul. So she slipped away from her father’s palace, and while everything was singing and enjoyment inside.” This is a quote from the original, and very dark tale of The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Anderson. This piece is 15x15cm painted on mounted birch panel, there are many, many layers of paint and ink and and varnish the texture is tactile, with crackle effects and smooth finishes, you want to run your hands and your eyes over it! The pale gold contrasting with the subtle teal hues and greys create such impact, the piece is both figurative and abstract, full of gesture and movement. This piece comes in a solid wood deep floater frame. The piece was created as part of the Den Lille Harfrue Collection – the little mermaid. Created in lockdown to express my feelings about the restrictions, being unable to have social contact and also experiencing incredibly vivid and at some times quite scary dreams, a lot based underwater. Not only did I draw on my own vivid dreams as inspiration for this piece, and this whole collection, I also looked at one of my favourite Fairy Tales as a Child- The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian.Slipped Away

British Female Fine Artist I am a full time studio based Fine Artist, my work explores beauty, femininity, love, passion and a sense of self. The inspiration comes from memories, life experiences, dreams and by taping into the stream of artwork from across the ages. My work is driven by the desire to create work which pushes the boundaries of my own art practice, exploring both figurative themes and ‘the surface’, through various mediums. I constantly strive to make innovative work, with a foundation in observation, drawing and mark making, my practice has explored painting, inked work, printmaking, sculpture, installation and site specific work. In recent years painting has been the main focus of my practice, I aspire to have a dist... (see more)
