I was trained in Graphic Design and spent many years working as a freelance illustrator for the publishing trade. My interest in painting the landscape really grew from a period when I was painting a lot of book covers for fantasy novels which are often set in wonderful landscapes and I found myself drawn to the challenge of capturing these magical places on canvas and gradually I found that landscape painting had somehow 'taken over' and I decided to concentrate fully on this aspect of my art. My work has been described as being traditional with a touch of impressionism and I think this describes perfectly what I am trying to achieve, which are paintings that are both decorative but also 'in the moment'.
