About the artwork

Turquoise Sea III is an original oil on canvas painting measuring 122 x 61 cm. Framed in a white washed wooden frame and ready to hang. Framed dimensions 126 x 64 cm Comes with a certificate of authenticity and a collector guarantee. This painting is inspired by the beautiful beach at Watergate Bay. This vast stretch of sand, big Atlantic swells, and high sea-beaten cliffs; a dramatic landscape, it’s one of the county’s wildest coastlines and considered by many as one of Cornwall’s best beaches. Watergate Bay beach is around 3 miles from Newquay on the North Cornwall coast, stretching out for two miles of golden sand, imposing cliffs, and untamed sea. Spectators, surfers, and world-class kite surfers flock here for the enormous waves providing a spectacular sight on any day. Privately owned, the beach is dog-friendly year-round and if the sea-breeze gets too fresh, there are cafes and restaurants close by to shelter and warm up in. Medium I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. Personally, I find that working in oils is the ultimate art medium. It allows me to create a wide range of effects, from subtle layers to bold strokes, and it also provides me with the necessary tools to bring my artwork to life. For me it is a timeless medium. Background Studying film and video art at the University of Plymouth has impacted on the way I paint. Creating a sense of movement and escapism in my work is important to me. If the viewer can feel they could walk across the sand or dive into the sea that is what I want to achieve. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth and am an Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark

Born in Buckinghamshire, I move to Devon 15 years ago and am now based in Teignmouth. My recent work has been focused on the changing colours of the sea and childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torbay (before the M5 was built). I have been painting a series of wave paintings for over 5 years now. It is the light coming through the waves and ever-changing colour of the sea that I am keen to explore. Everyone sees colour in a slightly different way to one another, call it colour perception. The way I see colour and the feelings I get when the colours align well on a canvas is appeals to me. The way collectors see my work will be unique to them because of their own individual colour perception. Painting f... (see more)
