This delightful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was created in pastel from a photo donated by Kerli Toode through the Facebook group "Photos for Artists" I loved the cheeky expression and could imagine his eyes following me around the room as he waited for his walk (or dinner! ) "Watching and waiting" is completed using soft pastels and pastel pencils on Clairefontaine pastelmat. The sharpened pencils create the detail and the background is blended using polystyrene sticks to give the three dimensional effect to the completed painting.Watching and waiting

I am a retired veterinary surgeon who has become a pastel artist. I was introduced to pastels as a teenager by a friend of my father’s and in fact I still have remnants of my first set of pastels. I passed A level art at 16, then went on to complete a veterinary science degree - my understanding of animals allows me to add that something extra to my artwork. I have completed a large number of works in the past 21 years, many of which can be seen on my website. I feel that pastels have a great vibrancy and richness of colour that is often under appreciated.
