About the artwork
This painting conveys a serene yet vibrant pathway where the trees arch so far over the path that they touch in the middle. Working layer upon layer the painting becomes a semi-abstract journey through nature. Sunlight filters through the trees creating shadows over the forest floor and the bright tones of gold, green and turquoise shimmer, inviting the viewer to wander along the forested trail and reflect upon the quietude and harmony. It's an escape into a softer, more peaceful world, a reminder of nature's gentle pulse, destined to infuse any space with tranquillity and inspiration. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on deep edged canvas. I begin with observation of the place making notes and taking photographs to work from in the studio. From these beginnings I work intuitively, painting some base layers with a brush and then impasto techniques layer on layer applied with a palette knife. Harnessing optical mixing techniques employed by the impressionists. I continue working until the painting reaches a natural conclusion. The painting continues round the sides, a frame is not needed and it is ready to hang.Wishing Well Wood

I am a contemporary artist producing vibrant colourful and highly textured original paintings. After studying fine art at Sheffield Hallam University, achieving a B A Hons (1st class) I subsequently lectured in colleges. I now practice full time as an artist from my studio in the Peak District. Painting is a response to the beautiful landscape around me, the experience of being in the place is an important part of the process. When I paint trees and forest scenes I attempt to capture the ethereal quality of light filtering through the leaves. I hope to impart the sense of peace and meditative calm I feel in these quiet places, whilst conveying an unspoken conversation with nature.
