About the artwork

An original oil painting over acrylic impasto substrate on a box canvas. Requires no framing, This is a large piece which would benefit from a considerate positioning either as a focal or statement piece in the home or the Office or as a traditional warming picture to a vast space. The paint is layer3d and applied richly to the canvas and is tangibly thick casting shadows as the day moves along its surface, if positioned well it lights up and follows the sun as Sunflowers do. Not quite a sculpture but close. Every artist should paint Sunflowers at some time in their career. Thank you.

About The Artist

Tony Broadbent

My name is Tony Broadbent, born in 1958 and I am an artist from Leeds, West Yorkshire My artwork is mainly abstract, semi-surreal and occassionaly psychedelic from oil on canvas to pen and ink on paper, mixed media. All my work is concerned with colour and form as well as the representation of a theme or angst. The signature of my work is bold, vibrant colours with stark or subtle imagery and has been described as a departure from the mundane. I am inspired by 1950's Abstract Expressionism, the Post Impressionists and Pre - Raphaelites mainly though I will steal any influences that attract me and paint in any style that moves me. My favorite artists are Dali., Picasso, Cesar Manrique, Miro ( to an extent ), the Pre - Raphaelites, W.M.T... (see more)
