About the artwork
In Greek mythology sirens were beautiful, dangerous women who enchanted sailors with music and sweet singing, luring them to their doom to be shipwrecked on rocks. This traditional theme of seduction crops up in art history and was popular with Victorian artists such as Waterhouse and Etty. A number of love songs have also been written on this subject including "Song of the Siren" by Tim Buckley. The siren shown here is sad "broken, lovelorn" on her rock.

Art and music have always fascinated me and I have been involved with both for most of my life. I have drawn and painted from a very early age and have created a diverse range of artwork in watercolours, oils and acrylics including portraits, landscapes, cityscapes (such as the two featured in the profile photograph), nudes, narrative works, abstracts and semi-abstracts. In my professional career I worked with composers, songwriters and performers, so musicians and music, past and present, have inspired a large number of my paintings.
