About the artwork

This painting was inspired by a walk along to the end of Sandsend Ness near Whitby, on the North Yorkshire coast. It is painted on linen canvas mounted on a deep-sided wooden stretcher fully painted around all four sides and strung ready to hang - no framing necessary! In March it was shortlisted in the Yorkshire Life Landscape Painter of the Year 2017 competition

About The Artist

Janette Boskett

In June 2000, as a mature student and following a restaurant career, Janette completed a degree in Fine Art from the University of York: this had been a life long ambition. At heart a still-life painter, passionate about shape, texture, form and line and inspired by seventeenth and eighteenth century Spanish and Dutch masters of the genre but also by surrealists like Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali she specialises in interesting and different still-life subjects, sometimes with a surreal twist, and increasingly inspired by the wonderful surroundings of the North York Moors where she lives. She often likes to combine the twin genres of still-life and landscape and then apply a gently surreal twist of her own to engage and amuse the view... (see more)
