About the artwork
This is the first in a series of paintings based on trees at Westonbirt Arboreteum in Gloucestershire, England. This is a fantastic place to view trees at all times of year, although there is probably the most spectacular display in autumn. I try and visit most years for inspiration. The painting is based on light through trees. On a bright sunny day the trees become silhouetted, and make a framework for the colours of foliage behind. This high contrast lighting is the focus of this painting. I was attracted by the shapes of the trees as well as the sunlit area beyond them. The painting is done in acrylic. The detail is carefully layered in many dots, impressionist style, to give texture and realism. The work is on paper, mounted on to board, to give it stability. The work is supplied with a white mount and backboard. This fits a 16 x 20 inch frame. I use standard sized mounts so you can easily buy a frame and put this together yourself. I have shown an example of how it looks in a black frameWestonbirt 1

I am an artist, living in SW England, who loves to paint bright bold colourful paintings. I work from my studio which looks out over trees and fields towards the Quantock Hills and Exmoor. My inspiration also comes from my own colourful garden too. My main focus is TREES and WILDFLOWER MEADOWS. I specialize in contemporary tree paintings, done in a range of styles. Some are very realistic and detailed, some impressionist dots, some focus on patterns and negative spaces between branches, some are restricted colour schemes and some can only be described as an explosion of colour. I love painting trees, and am continually exploring new ways to create art work based on them. I love painting contemporary floral art, and was a full member of t... (see more)
