Flame lily once the national flower of (Rhodesia) Zimbabwe. The flower has a very interesting and distinctive shape. I did not realize how many variations in colour there were. It is always a red and yellow colour but some petals are almost all yellow others are virtually red. This is already framed in a simple gold coloured frame.
I was born in a country that no longer exists: Rhodesia - today it is Zimbabwe. As a child I ran around bare foot and went exploring in the bush. I started drawing my finds at night (no TV). As I was a little wild, I was sent to boarding school. It was on the site of an old gold mine. Art was part of the curriculum, I loved it. As an Adult I qualified as a teacher and was sent to Chipinga. I started painting backdrops for the plays we did. I spent a lot of time researching and making sketches for the plays. This took a lot of time .Once ready to paint the backdrop, we used an army of school children, teachers and parents to complete the work. It was a real community effort.
