The Helford River located in Cornwall is a flooded river valley and not a true river. It is fed by a number of small streams running into its numerous creeks. The river has long been an important industrial and agricultural marine highway serving local mines, farms and quarries and, more recently, as base for a dozen or so local fishing boats and the oyster farm. Most of this industry has now gone, although fishermen still use the river to moor up and land their catch. This painting is on a narrow canvas with painted sides and is ready to hang or can be framed.
I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my distinctive style so that today, my work is instantly recognisable. Being self-taught has been advantageous - my style has not been moulded but has evolved. It has not been influenced by the work of others but has become uniquely my own by the processes of practice, development, persistence, trial and error. A lot of the inspiration for my work comes from the photographs that I take whilst out kayaking and walking along the coast and rivers of this beautiful County. I portray what I see with innocence and simplicity, using the vibrant colours of acrylic paint to create my view of the world
