Louise Gillard

Based in United Kingdom
I am a painter and print maker, living and working in South West London. I completed a degree in French and Fine Art at the University of Exeter, where I specialised in painting. I developed my print making skills at The City Lit and Morley College in London and also attended courses in stained glass making and sculpture. I have exhibited at Panter & Hall gallery, Putney Arts Theatre, Urban Art Fair, Chelsea Art Society Annual Exhibitions, Wandsworth Arts Fringe and a number of Open House exhibitions. I have also completed several private commissions and have work hanging in homes around the UK and abroad. In 2017 I was voted overall winner by the judges of the Jackson's Pastel Landscape competition. I find inspiration everywhere, from the simplest dinghy moored at Weymouth marina to the bustling market near my home in South West London. I travel with an Ipad, sketch book and camera to record images which can spark a finished work. Back in the studio I paint in acrylics and oils on canvas, board and paper. My prints are all originals, made by hand; I make the plates, ink up and pull each print myself. I draw on various techniques, including etching, linocut, woodcut, collograph and monoprint, and increasingly a combination of these. I rarely complete an edition of identical prints but prefer to vary each image with hand colouring, collage or simply a different combination of inks. In this way, each print is as original as a painting. My paintings are largely figurative whilst my prints may be figurative, semi-abstract or purely abstract. Vibrant colour and texture feature strongly.
