When we think of summer, we think sun, flowers, beach, holiday, beautiful places, gardens and coastlines, to name just a few. These are the elements that not only bring us happiness during the warm season, but they  also represent a never ending source of inspiration for artists of all times.

From Poppy Field by Claude Monet to A Bigger Splash by David Hockney and everything in between up until today, summer paintings are as diverse in style and theme as the artists who created them and the artistic eras they were created in. But let’s take a closer look at some of our artists inspired by summer.

Miriam Meek in her painting August Evening, uses a mix of colours that can be seen in the sky on August evenings at sunset, when the light changes in a matter of minutes. Summer Splendour by Simon Fairless is a floral abstract painting using the splash or drip technique and is created using the complementary colours orange and blue.

Summer Meadow by Martin Piercy is a modern floral palette knife painting created in acrylic while Summer Breeze II by Paresh Nrshinga is a colourful mixed media artwork created in acrylic and collage in warm summery colours.

Summer Poppies in a Sussex Meadow 2014 by Gill Bustamante is a large expressionist landscape in reds and greens showing big mad poppies in a green Sussex field. Enjoy our selection!
