1. Great British Drawings – Ashmolean Museum, 26 March – 31 August 2015
The exhibition showcases drawings and watercolours by artists that have been working in Britain, from Flemish artists in 16th and 17th centuries to modern artists after the First World War. The exhibition includes artworks by JMW Turner, Rossetti, Millais, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and LS Lowry.
2. Leonora Carrington – Tate Liverpool, 6 March – 31 May 2015
The exhibition examines Leonora Carrington’s diverse and unusual career as a painter, writer, designer and actress. Pivotal to the Surrealist movement, her narratives exist between the ordinary and the extraordinary.
3. Sargent: Portraits of Artists and Friends – National Portrait Gallery, 12 February – 25 May 2015
The exhibition showcases Sargent’s intimate portraits of his circle of friends, which included Robert Louis Stevenson, Claude Monet and Auguste Rodin.
4. Canaletto: Celebrating Britain – Compton Verney, Warwickshire, 24 March – 7 June 2015
The exhibition showcases paintings and drawings Canaletto created during his nine-year stay in Britain. In a series of works dating between 1746 and 1755, Canaletto captures Britain in its flourishing glory. The exhibition marks the first time these works have ever been brought together.
