Mothering Sunday is one of the most popular celebrations in the UK since its first occurrence in the 16th Century in England and Ireland. It is a day when we are showing appreciation to all mums through flowers, gifts and acts of kindness. Although it evolved differently than Mother’s Day which was first celebrated in ancient Greece, both names refer to the same day: three weeks before Easter Sunday, meaning that this year it falls on the 31st of March.
On this day, mums are spoiled by their families, waking up to the smell of freshly baked cakes and bread, they are taken to dinner and they are given gifts. The most popular are flowers and jewellery closely followed by handmade items and art. The latter is good news for our independent artists who have been busy working on some timeless pieces that can fit perfectly into a Mother’s Day gift guide and your shopping cart.
Butterflies are forever
Let’s start with Paresh Nrshinga’s butterfly series that is both modern and innovative, full of creativity and colour. It can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their taste in art. But if you are after something more adventurous, he also offers abstract pieces that can be great conversation starters on a feature wall. View his gallery for more options.
Flowers that don’t need a new vase
If you want flowers that will last forever, Cinzia Mancini’s gallery is packed with colourful flowers for all mums to enjoy. No matter what their favourite flower is, Cinzia might have it in her floral collection. Sunflowers, poppies and meadows are amongst her favourites to paint, but you will find vibrant bouquets in vases, too. No new vase is required for this gift.
Nature and serenity
For those who like traditional art, Oleg Riabchuk paints beautiful landscapes in oil as well as flowers and sunsets. You can choose a depiction of any season with the beautiful sun showing through the trees and water surfaces that reflect the nature around. If your mum likes walking in the countryside being surrounded by peace and quiet, his paintings might be right up her street! Visit his full gallery and tell us which one would be to your mum’s taste.
Let’s not forget about mums who like abstract and modern art. Lisa Vallo offers abstract cityscapes with iconic buildings from all over the world from New York to Moscow as well as mixed media pieces in which she incorporates wood pieces and little mirrors. Intrigued? Have a closer look.
One of the most recent artists to join our gallery is Linda Latham, a watercolour artist specialising in botanical art and wildlife. “Clouded Leopard Dozing” captures an endangered species taking a nap on a branch. The clouded leopard looks so tranquil in her artwork that you wouldn’t think that are less than 10,000 adults left in the world. We need more artists like her to capture those beautiful animals not just as a skilfully painted piece but also to raise awareness of the animals’ vulnerability. And we need more of her work in our gallery, too.
This is just a small part of what our gallery has to offer; if you have a look, you will find a piece of art for every taste and every budget as well as for any corner of your home. It doesn’t have to be a big statement piece; a small painting for an empty spot on a wall will do. Why not get ready for Mother’s Day not just with a freshly baked cake to be enjoyed for the day, but with a piece of art to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
We are currently running a 10% off offer for all artworks. Use the code 10today at the checkout.
