Sturminster Newton Mill is one of a series of ancient flour mills built on the River Stour. Although it is thought that there may have been a mill on this site in Saxon times, the first record is contained in the Domesday Book of 1086, which mentions four mills in the Sturminster area. Until the turn of the 20th century Sturminster Newton Mill was powered by a pair of water wheels working side by side which drove four sets of stones. In 1904 the mill was upgraded and the two water wheels were replaced with a single water turbine. The Mill was restored in 1980 and is now a museum. This painting is on a narrow canvas with painted sides and is ready to hang or can be framed.
I am a Cornish artist who has spent many years developing my distinctive style so that today, my work is instantly recognisable. Being self-taught has been advantageous - my style has not been moulded but has evolved. It has not been influenced by the work of others but has become uniquely my own by the processes of practice, development, persistence, trial and error. A lot of the inspiration for my work comes from the photographs that I take whilst out kayaking and walking along the coast and rivers of this beautiful County. I portray what I see with innocence and simplicity, using the vibrant colours of acrylic paint to create my view of the world
