My name is Jean-Marc Hoth, I am a fine artist, illustrator and graphic designer, even though with most of my recent work, I have mainly been focusing on figurative drawings and paintings. I have over 12 years of experience working as a freelance artist. In 2007, I took part in a BBC documentary about the life of English artist: Lawrence Stephen Lowry (1887-1976). I was also a 2007 award winner of the Helena Kennedy Foundation; a charity that awards bursaries and scholarships to students who need a second opportunity to continue their studies in Higher Education. I currently live in London.
Through out my live, I have been obsessed with drawing and painting, to me, making art has always been a labour of love. I strongly believe that figurative art in the classical as well as in the traditional sense as taught me so much about the core values of life itself such as: hard work, self-discipline, patience, perseverance, resilience, humility, and so much more.
To me art is so much more than being able to successfully copy and recreate the world around us, it is also very much about having the ability to interpret what we see, making the subject matter more dramatic, more stylised, and with greater emphasis on the poetic and the metaphysical qualities of art. Making the final outcome familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. Although, as stated earlier, capturing the physical characteristics of a subject matter is very important, it is also important to capture the state of mind of the subject being drawn or painted, if that subject is a person.
I work extremely hard at my craft everyday, and I have remained a student of art through out my artistic life, constantly trying to better myself as an artist. I spent years and years studying and being fascinated by colour theory, while subsequently having learned about and have developed a thorough understanding of the elements and principles of design.
I also have a queen interest in visual aesthetic and the subjective nature of beauty and taste.
I can take all sorts of figurative drawings and paintings commissions, and of any subject matters, including, but not limited to: portraitures (family portraits, wedding portraits etc.), landscapes, still life, and animal paintings.
