Based in United Kingdom
Tony Kenwright is a full-time artist and photographer from Wallasey.
During a long career in press photography he photographed many ‘A’ list celebrities and travelled with Liverpool and Everton to matches both in the U.K. and abroad. His work won a number of awards and has featured in newspapers and books around the world. He also spent several years as a music critic.
His first love has always been painting however, and the pictures on display here represent just a small selection from his output. He works mainly in acrylic because it satisfies his passion for colour. He says of his own work: “I love photography but sometimes it’s frustrating only being able to capture what you see. With paint I can capture the way I feel and that is such a liberation.”
Daily Post Arts correspondent Philip Key said after a recent exhibition:
Tony Kenwright paints in a free-flowing style that gives his work a movement and freshness that adds greatly to his subject matter. He has a photographer's eye for composition and an artist's feel for colour.
There is in his work, despite the thematic variety, always a sense of something happening; above all, there is a sense of adventure in his paintings which pulls in the viewer.
