Martin James is a contemporary British sculptor whose artistic process is deeply intertwined with the materials he selects, often including stone, steel, and found objects. Music acts as a guiding force during his creative endeavours, serving as a filter through which his works take shape. Despite his initial intentions, Martin finds himself surrendering control to the work itself, assuming the role of a facilitator whose sole purpose is to coax the piece along its evolutionary path. If a work fails to respond to his efforts, Martin knows when to halt his interventions, recognizing the importance of allowing the emergent process to unfold naturally.
