About the artwork

Jurassic Coast Headlands. Price £450 30 x 22 inches/76 x 56 cms. Unframed Watercolour and gouache on Kahdi cotton handmade paper – 320 gms. When I came to live on the Jurassic coast in Dorset I was immediately struck by the unique geology – the colours, the patterns of the adventitious vegetation, the shapes and the changing conditions I saw the coastline from a succession of small boats which helped me to appreciate the space between the land and sea. The chalk is made up principally of wonderful coccolith calcium carbonate plates and spheres – I had to represent them here. Entirely my own inspiration…….I woke up one morning and knew how I was going to express my feelings about them.

The geology of Utah and Arizona is stupendous and I have done several large painting from there. I have had many exhibtions in London and the countryside specializing, before I came to Dorset, in flowers and 19C architecture – see Bridgeman art library….. Although I have sold several oil paintings I much prefer to work in watercolour. It seems to me to be the most ecological of the various mediums.
