About the artwork

This piece is a very personal one for me. Not only did I use my apartment bathroom as the backdrop but I had friends model for me and encourage my work and the concept of isolation and detachment in modern apartment blocks, which is something many people feel but do not know how to combat. This diptych was the first piece to gain me recognition as an art student. It was displayed in the Summer Semester Competition for the painting department at my university in Tokyo. I was able to successfully use my signature style and muted pastel palette to render human forms in line with minimal brushwork. The original wooden panels were recycled so the piece is in the form of 2 rolls of paper currently. I can have it framed on my end before sale, price included. Please let me know if there are any framing preferences or size requirements.

Born and raised in London, I have loved art from an early age. I was introduced to Japanese art and language at school and quickly became obsessed with the way lines are used to render form. Having mastered the language I moved to Japan and studied Japanese Painting and traditional East Asian brushwork techniques in Tokyo from 2013. After gaining a BFA from Tama Art University in Japanese Painting in 2020, I moved back home and started working as an independent artist. I am constantly pushing my work forward and forging my unique style while using the skills I learned in Japan. My work has a strong Japonisme influence with figurative and allegorical themes often coming to the forefront. I mostly paint female portraits, but I have a passi... (see more)
