About the artwork
The two pieces called 'Perforated Meadows' are a pair of similarly painted oils on reconstituted marble dust tile. Each depicts memories or an impression of the forest scenery of my childhood, I am trying to evoke my love of the area and the endless variety of shapes and colours seen in nature. In this piece the foreground branches are picked out in blue. The unpredictable nature of the textured surface of the tile to some extent influences the subsequent composition, or at least has an effect on how I react to the surface with my paint. It is framed in a hand made wooden frame painted mid grey bringing the total size at 24x24cm. A certificate of authenticity is supplied in addition to a copy pasted on the reverse of the work. As a contemporary landscape painter based in Bungay, part of the beautiful Waveney Valley on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, I am inspired by a love of the local rural scenery at Outney Common and Bath Hills as well as the uncompromising coastline stretching South from Yarmouth to Aldeburgh. Specific interest centres on the beach, marshes, and woodland scenery in places such as Dunwich and Covehithe on the North Suffolk coast. Mainly painting in oils on canvas or board, I sometimes incorporate natural materials such as sand, dust, and detritus in my work to capture connections between texture, spirit of nature and the landscape.
