About the artwork
After a day walking around the grounds of Calke Abbey studying the ancient Oaks. The presence of these amazing trees in the amazing setting gave me the desire to portray them on canvas I took photographs and sketches and then used elements out of each to create a tree of my own. The patterns on the tree trunks which are all different and ravaged by weather over time. Some of them looked as if they had not survived and then you would find a sign of life. This was a joy to paint with all random strange shapes and the wonderful patterns of the bark. I Have paint a smaller canvas which turned out fine, but I felt a large canvas would give the impact for a larger room may need. There has been many layers of paint to build up the effect and many impliments to make the textures. I enjoyed this painting so much it Is a subject I will return to.
