About the artwork
The Final Gift of Summer Leaving is a wistful and mellow river bank painting with swallows and a tangle of wild flowers along a river. It is a 30x30x1.5 inches. The style is semi abstract and composed of many overlapping transparent layers in full vibrant rainbow colours. To the left are the deep greens, blues, purples and turquoise of trees in shadow and behind them you can see the glittering sun in the bend of the river. To the right is a view across a mass of summer flowers and the hint of fields and trees and hills in the background with a single dwelling. Two swallows are dancing around on the left gathering insects ready for their long flight south. This painting was inspired by a walk one August day on the South Downs near the river Arun. The feeling is a little melancholy as I always miss the swallows when they leave – hence the title. I tried to capture this last blast of the end of summer and there is a definite mood to this painting that hints of the end of something and the beginning of something new. Dedicated to all those people working to keep Sussex and its wildlife safe and beautiful. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_ywbuo5tpUThe Final Gift of Summer Leaving

*Gill Bustamante B.A. – Artist and Art Tutor, Sussex.* My name is Gill Bustamante and I paint large contemporary landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. They are mostly inspired by the Sussex landscapes I see around me where I live. My painting style is a fusion of Expressionist, Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an 'echo' of the place from memory, including any wildlife I may have seen. I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. It always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving errat... (see more)
