Artists of the Month

Delight in our hand-picked artists for August

Paula Oakley

Art is designed to transport us to new places and Paula Oakley is one of those rare artists that captures the very essence of her subject. This realist painter enhances every location with variable light aspects that allow the piece to truly come alive. The vivid imagery entices the viewer to become involved with the subject of the painting and variable hues offer dancing among colours.

Like other artists, Paula Oakley derives her inspiration from where she has been. As is evident in her pieces, she loves exploring the outdoors and as she is located in the county of Sussex, there are many different beautiful spaces to be explored. Bold colours mix with muted tones to offer a multi textural experience to her landscapes beckoning the viewer to imaging what is around the next corner far beyond the physical piece. Paula Oakley sees the beauty in everyday landscapes and invites you to do the same.

“ My life is all about walking and painting the wonderful  views that  I discover around Sussex and taking delight in capturing the colours of the ever changing seasons “

Marcin Kulabko

Who says art must be strictly within the lines of traditionalism. Marcin Kulabko takes a more enjoyable approach to his artwork. Each piece depicts a subject, but instead of notating the actual attributes of the subject, he paints as he feels in more of a surrealism fashion. This method of painting adds a level of whimsy and joy that is not generally expressed in strictly traditional artwork.

Marcin Kulabko is not new to the art world and has studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Although his art remains popular in Poland, his pieces have gained vast recognition on an international scale as well. Exhibitions in China, United States, England, Holland, and Norway have allowed Kulabko’s artwork to travel the globe. Fun and unique expression is what sets his pieces apart from others. Kulabko often provides unique backgrounds to his pieces to further emphasize the enjoyable nature of his artistic expressions.

"I love to create art for others to enjoy.I like to share my emotions and fascination with others hoping people will feel great about it too.Art is my lifelong passion.I connot not draw.I draw because I need to."

Paul Chambers

Expressing ourselves through art is often what allows humans to get through some of the most difficult times. For Paul Chambers, he did not come into the art scene with a silver spoon in his mouth. Growing up in inner-city Nottingham in 1942 allowed Paul to see the gritty side of the world, and due to certain hardships, he stopped going to school at age 14. Factory work, marriage, and moving took over Paul’s life, but in 2007, retirement allowed Paul Chambers to truly embrace his passion for art.

He now runs his own studio and paints as he feels. Paul prefers allowing colours to speak for themselves within his pieces and his modern style is celebrated throughout Nottingham and throughout England. As a self taught artist, Paul Chambers is able to express himself through art and enjoy his retirement to its fullest. His wife Margaret is his inspiration for life and his constant companion in his artistic pursuits.

"In choosing the abstract/gestural style of painting I hope to transfer energy, excitement and freedom of motion into a visual image that is pleasing to the eye while stimulating the imagination in the viewer."

Laura Stötefeld

Artists vary drastically by their style, composition, and overall passion. Laura Stötefeld is certainly no different. Her passion revolves around finding the true beauty in nature and following through with that beauty on canvas. However, where she differs from other artists is her lack of colour. Where many artists provide vibrant colour, Laura Stötefeld approaches from more of a monochromatic view.

Although the lack of colour might be confusing to some viewers, once you see her art, you understand how Laura Stötefeld feels about nature. It is not the colour that makes the beauty, but the formation of the image depicted. By erasing the distraction of colour, the viewer is able to see the very essence of the subject. Laura’s emphasis on the formation of nature is derived from her passion and career in biology. Her work is highly celebrated for its complexity and natural sources of inspiration.

"I am passionate about uncovering the myriades of beautiful silent secrets and treasures hidden by mother nature, and creating art that spends some nature-induced peace and balance to the soul."

Magdalena Knight

With some artists, you know exactly what to expect form their pieces. However, there remains a sect of artists that take inspiration and spontaneity to its very limit. Magalena Knight is one of the more spontaneous artists within the art world. This Poland born artist has traveled across Australia and her works are currently being featured in Perth. Her pieces can seem erratic at first and are certainly considered as abstract art, but the beauty in her paintings come from their truly raw nature.

As a self taught artist, Magdalena Knight paints based on emotion and feelings instead of traditional artistic instruction dictates. The result has proven to be among the most beautiful and awe inspiring modern pieces. Although Magdelana utilizes a variety of tools in her pieces, her favourite tool is the pallet knife as it allows her to not only paint, but provide amazing texture to each piece.

"My aim with my art is to evoke emotional response. The best way for me is to experiment and see what it brings. Also painting makes me happy and relaxed."

Since receiving his degree in 1999, he has devoted his life to his art and received countless awards and recognition from a variety of different sources. This celebrated artist is featured in both local and regional art exhibits year after year.

The thing that sets Andrew Stevens work apart from others is his use of emotion and colour to emphasize that emotion. Instead of painting a subject as it appears, Stevens is able to lock into their emotion and bring it out in beautiful fashion. His passion for the subject matter can be felt in every brush stroke and his use of colour allows you to be completely transported into the piece. Whether Stevens is painting a person, animal, or landscape, his passion for every detail is evident in every stroke of the brush.

"If you take as much pleasure in my pictures as I take in painting them, then there are two happy people in the world."

Serhii Voichenko

Artists can often feel tied down to one style of art. This can sometimes limit their ability to truly express themselves. Serhii Voichenko is not tied down to any specific art style and instead embraces a mixture of surrealism, impressionism, and expressionism in his pieces. By diversifying his personal artistic style, Voichenko is celebrated as a versatile and spontaneous artist.

Within Serhii Voichenko’s art, complete stories are told surrounding each piece. Inspiration comes from love stories, women, and his lift in Ukraine. His pieces take colour to another dimension and as you look at each piece, you see something new every time. Serhii Voichenko’s use of various colour and geometric shapes offer a unique view and emphasize his love for his craft. Voichenko’s art offers more of an urban feel than other artists and subjects are not painted in the realist fashion, but more of an abstract view.

Aisha Haider

As a resident of the UK, born in Lancashire, Aisha Haider has been heavily influenced by the epic country scenery in that part of the world. Her medium is primarily acrylics due to the overall versatility they offer. Oils are a significant part of this artist’s repertoire as well. Passion for art has always been a part of Aisha Haider’s life and although she remains humble about her art, her confidence in her skills has grown due to positive feedback of her earlier pieces.

Realism is not the goal with many of Aisha’s pieces. They offer more of an impressionistic feel and almost provide a dream scape impression. Vivid colour and bold lines are evident in each piece and although many of her pieces are landscapes, Aisha Haider also depicts a variety of human and animal subjects in her artwork. Light, colour, and beautiful imagery are what bring so many to view and purchase Aisha Haider’s stunning pieces.

Paul Kiernan

Every artist has their own unique style and Paul Kiernan is celebrated for his childlike watercolour paintings. His style of painting harkens back to a simpler time when animations were drawn by hand. Although his images are still, they all offer that classic animation style with vivid movement and colour that is truly amazing. Each painting features dream like structures and depicts each person as a unique person, but devoid of any facial features. The people are meant to be a part of the painting, but not the sole focus. Generally, the focus is based around the vivid colour and joy of the marine lifestyle.

The joy of painting can be seen in every piece Paul Kiernan paints and his pieces have been celebrated for their clean lines and animated style. A zest for life and everyday situations is one of the most prominent themes in Paul Kiernan’s pieces.
