About the artwork
Constantine Bay original seascape oil painting on canvas. Width 125.5 cm x Height 64.5 cm or 49 x 25.5 inches. Signed. Framed in a white washed wooden frame finished with wax. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. Free UK Shipping. Inspiration Constantine Bay is inspired one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall, Constantine Bay beach offers a sweeping arc of gently shelving soft pale sands. This west-facing beach also has numerous rock pools to explore and is very popular for swimming and paddling. Constantine Bay is separated from its neighbour, Booby’s Bay, to the north, by a thin rocky point; bordered by a large rocky reef to the south and backed by a network of sand dunes. Surfing Information: Constantine is a very popular surf spot producing top quality waves in the North Cornwall area. It has a reef at the southern end of the bay that works through the tide, depending on swell size, that produces lefts running into the bay however, the wave can be fickle depending on swell direction. In the middle of the bay at high tide is a good peak producing rights and lefts with fast and sucky waves. There is also a point at the north end of the bay that produces good waves from mid to high tide. Suitable for experienced surfers only due to hidden rocks, dangerous rips and the beach shelves quickly at high tide. At low tide it connects with it’s sister beach, Booby’s Bay, giving a crescent stretch of more than half a mile of golden sand with plenty of room for picnics and beach games. At high tide it changes to a shelving beach and Booby’s Beach can only be reached by a path near the golf course. Nearby St Merryn has pubs, restaurants and cafes and Padstow is also close. Medium I like to work in oils because of their versatility. You can layer the paint so that it has a translucency. Also It is so robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it too. This is another in my series of wave paintings which I started many years ago. Background I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist. In conclusion, I am a member of the Devon Artist Network where you can see more of my work here https://www.devonartistnetwork.co.uk/catherine-kennedy-1 and a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.Constantine Bay

Born in Buckinghamshire, I move to Devon 15 years ago and am now based in Teignmouth. My recent work has been focused on the changing colours of the sea and childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torbay (before the M5 was built). I have been painting a series of wave paintings for over 5 years now. It is the light coming through the waves and ever-changing colour of the sea that I am keen to explore. Everyone sees colour in a slightly different way to one another, call it colour perception. The way I see colour and the feelings I get when the colours align well on a canvas is appeals to me. The way collectors see my work will be unique to them because of their own individual colour perception. Painting f... (see more)
