    About the artwork

Original one-off watercolour painting. I paint African wildlife, primarily in watercolours - bright, flowing and merging - whatever I need to capture that particular moment. I try to create pictures that make people joyful either by recalling a cherished holiday or the expression of a special friend, or simply because these fellow creatures still exist. This family picture of big tusker elephants is a wow. On the extreme right is the matriarch with her calf. On the left is the big daddy elephant with enormous tusks. May his tusks always be. There are less than twenty ‘big tuskers’ still alive, and half of them live in Tsavo National Park in Kenya. Sadly, Tim, a much loved tusker died earlier in 2020 of natural causes - in other words, old age. He was a mischievous ele, who loved raiding crops. They put a collar on him to monitor his movements and tried to deter him with teams of noisy people but he quickly learned to evade them. RIP Tim. The painting is very wide and short and amazingly vibrant with layers and layers of rich dripping colour. The 23ct pure gold will never tarnish and gives this painting a special finish. The title is also a sign of our times. Archival quality. The painting will be posted flat. For reviews of my work please go to my google page on https://g.page/joshaigh

Imagine my surprise when, at the tender age of 9, I won first prize for my painting of a rose. I didn’t really know about flowers. Or winning. But I knew I liked painting. I lived in Kenya before coming to England, aged 16 (no lions in the streets, I kept telling my school friends!) and followed a scientific career in the pharmaceutical industry. Always painting in the evenings, in my spare time - for family, for friends, for me. I paint mainly animals, especially African wildlife, in watercolours - bright, flowing and merging - whatever I need to capture that particular moment.
