About the artwork
I painted this during the Winter 2021 lockdown, stuck in the house, unable to get out into nature and wondering when it would all end! The moody sky and intensity of the waves driving towards the shore represented that frustration - but I wanted to hold onto hope for a return to normality and better days... That hope is the light breaking through the clouds and illuminating the hills beyond. The scene is not a real place but composited from photos I took on the Pembrokeshire coast. As much an emotional landscape as a location. Working up the clouds as I wanted them, intense yet subtle in their distinction was a technical challenge! I feel it came out pretty well though. It's a work that does have personal resonance with me, tempted to keep it... but there is a time to hold on and a time to set free. I was experimenting with very wet paint (thinned) in the clouds and it was a test of nerve as any mess-up would've been hard to correct but it does give them a texture and weight that is hard to achieve. Sides of the canvas are painted black.Hope - Light breaks the Clouds

My passion for art has always been everything to me. I started drawing and painting as a young child and never stopped! I am inspired everyday by other artists and by the world around me but I've always tried to keep my focus on my own work and focus on what makes me unique as a creator. I focus very deeply on each piece in progress and fully 'live it'. I invest so much of myself in each artwork and it brings me a lot of satisfaction to see them become part of other people's lives.
