About the artwork

This is a three piece artwork , 3x30/30cm ( total lengh of 90cm.) My work represents a painting in three parts and is a collection of decorative elements, combined in floral motifs and other authentic objects, revealing the beauty of a bygone era. Symbolically , the lavishly decorated Venetian mask is removed in the first part of the triptych. With the removal of the mask, the disguise of good manners and behavior also are taken off. Rivalry, pride , thirst for supremacy are evidently represented in the pistols facing each other in the second and third part of the triptych. The motifs in the authentic weapons beautifully match with the ones embedded in the background. A meaning and symbolism has been given to the orchid in many different cultures - in Ancient Greece, Japan, China. Here I chose to depict an orchid as an emblem of femininity, grace and elegance, as it so beautifully complements the warm, earthy colours of the background.

I have been painting my whole life, ever since my curiosity was able to make me explore the form, the construction, the intensity of colours. I work mostly with acrylic and oil media. In my earlier years of work I have been doing a lot of pencil and charcoal drawings. Occasionally I am painting portraits, which I find to be very calming and satisfying in process. I am always eager to try something new. In my art I take inspiration from the world around me , reflected in beautiful sunsets, landscapes or figurative compositions.
