About the artwork
Turquoise Abstract Water Oil on canvas. Width 100 x Height 70 cm or 39.5 x 27.5 inches. Signed. With a certificate of authenticity. Ready to hang. Turquoise Abstract Water is inspired by the colours found around the coastline of Devon and Cornwall. In shallow water rivers leading into the sea become a mixture of emerald, turquoise and blue; contrasting with the deep indigo blue of the sea. This painting is part of series looking at the play of light on water. It is a more tranquil and peaceful contrast to the first energizing wave series. Above all I am intrigued the patterns created when sunlight hits the shallow water creating a dance of light and shadow with blue, turquoise, green and indigo ripples. Both series have been inspired by the changing colours of the sea but also childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torquay. These emerald and turquoise waters, have all had an influence on what I wanted to paint. My paintings are oil on canvas as I prefer to work with this medium for its adaptability. In my work I aim to incorporate a process of change and development. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 at the University of Plymouth. My exhibitions have been throughout Devon and one of my films was been exhibited at the South Bank, London and in Italy. I am a Teignmouth based artist. In conclusion, I am a Geopark Ambassador Artist for the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark. and a member of the Devon Artist NetworkTurquoise Abstract Water

Born in Buckinghamshire, I move to Devon 15 years ago and am now based in Teignmouth. My recent work has been focused on the changing colours of the sea and childhood memories of holidays to the Mediterranean and annual visits to Torbay (before the M5 was built). I have been painting a series of wave paintings for over 5 years now. It is the light coming through the waves and ever-changing colour of the sea that I am keen to explore. Everyone sees colour in a slightly different way to one another, call it colour perception. The way I see colour and the feelings I get when the colours align well on a canvas is appeals to me. The way collectors see my work will be unique to them because of their own individual colour perception. Painting f... (see more)
