The Atlas moth is the largest species of moth in the world with a wingspan bigger than a human hand. A famous feature of this moth is its ability to mimic a snake when the wings are folded. This illusion via the patterns on the wings deter any predators. In honour of this incredible creature I decided to create an actual size moth, The bright orange tones are complimented by a background of tropical leaves. An ethical display has been created and the moth is displayed in a simple matt black frame. The piece would be perfect for the office, living area, bedroom or a gift for any moth enthusiast and can be mixed and matched with other moth and tropical artworks. Briony Howell is an artist and illustrator living in Brighton, East Sussex. She graduated from De Montfort University with a Fine Art degree in 2007 and has participated in exhibitions in London and Brighton and Suffolk. Briony captures in pencil and paint all things interesting. She enjoys observing the world of nature in as much detail as possible. Textures and colours help to bring narrative and weight to the subject matter. Her love of textures and nature has also inspired her ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series, drawing all sorts of animals in as much detail as possible.
